Identifying animal materials using the Linnaeus II software
نویسنده
چکیده
Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE, Mad cow disease) is generally considered to be caused by recycling animal by-products as ingredient in animal, especially ruminant, feed. Feed bans were enforced to minimize the risk on infections, and monitoring programs are effectuated for controlling the ban. The only official detection method is visual (microscopic) examination of the presence of primarily bone fragments, but muscle fibres, hairs, feather filaments, and fish bones are targeted as well. An expert system is developed called ARIES (Animal Remains Identification and Evaluation System) with identification tools for those fragments. ARIES provides information on procedures, legislation and background documentation, and descriptions of prohibited materials as well as of a range of confusing particles. The system allows documentation of the results of evaluations for future reference and is considered a good platform for training and education. Index Terms — ARIES, BSE, identification, Linnaeus II software, mad cow disease. —————————— u ——————————

Use of Microsatellite Polymorphisms in Ovar-DRB1 Gene for Identifying Genetic Resistance in Fat-Tailed Ghezel Sheep to Gastrointestinal Nematodes
This study was designed to identify genetically resistant animals to gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) infections using microsatellite polymorphisms of Ovar-DRB1 gene in Iranian Ghezel sheep breed lambs. In the present study 120 male Ghezel lambs were at 4 to 6 months of age randomly selected from six different sheep flocks in East Azerbaijan province (n=20 per flock). These lambs were naturally ...

Organic materials, due to their vulnerable structure, are considered as rare archeological materials. Therefore, the number of research and literature about these materials is limited. In this project, four leather artifacts found in Chehrabad Salt Mine of Zanjan belonging to Achaemenid period have been studied in three sections: first, identifying the type of animal whose skin has been used in...

متن کاملAnimal and human rabies in Mongolia.
The prevalence of animal rabies differs in each area of Mongolia. Wolves (Canis lupus Linnaeus, 1758), foxes ( Vulpes vulpes Linnaeus, 1758), corsac foxes (Vulpes corsac Linnaeus, 1768) and manuls (Felis manul Pallas, 1778) are considered to be the infective wild animals in natural foci. Amongst livestock, cattle have had the most rabies cases, followed by camels, sheep, goats and horses. The p...
متن کاملUsing PCR-PIRA based genotyping for identifying complex vertebral malformation allele in Frieswal young bulls in India
Complex vertebral malformation (CVM) has considerable economic impact on dairy cattle breeding due to extensive use of artificial insemination (AI). Identifying the carrier is an important factor to reduce the incidence of the genetic disorder. The study was conducted to identify the carriers of CVM in Frieswal cattle by polymerase chain reaction-primer-introduced restriction analysis (PCR-PIRA...
